The Désert de Platé

In the Fiz mountain range, between the Giffre and Arve valleys, the Désert de Platé faces Mont Blanc. This limestone plateau covering 1,980 hectares is mostly made up of lapiaz formations carved by glaciers and melting water. Classified since 1998 for its exceptional landscape value, the Désert de Platé fascinates visitors with its extraordinary appearance — like “walking on a petrified glacier” or “on the moon.”
